Project Story
World Resource Institute is advancing environmental issues by addressing needs on several different fronts. These include sustaining forests, mitigating water issues, creating value in the business community through environmental sustainability, ensuring clean, reliable energy, supporting agriculture through sustainable development. As well, WRI focuses on the importance of our oceans. Our oceans are home to half the worlds species, adds $2.5 trillion each year to the global economy, feeds 3 billion people, and importantly, produces half the planet’s oxygen and absorbs a quarter of all carbon dioxide emissions. Puppies Behind Bars
Puppies Behind Bars (PBB) trains prison inmates to raise service dogs for wounded veterans and first responders, as well as explosive-detection canines for law enforcement. Puppies enter prison at the age of 8 weeks and live with their inmate puppy-raisers for approximately 24 months. As the puppies mature into well-loved, well-behaved dogs, their raisers learn what it means to contribute to society and give a gift to a first responder or veteran suffering from stress and trauma.
